New Mums Get Fit We’ve all heard the phrase “eating for two”, and during pregnancy it is normal to cave in to your cravings and eat slightly bigger portions and naughtier foods than you would usually. Combined with the post-pregnancy tum, lax skin and extra weight, it is no wonder that many new mums are seeking ways to get back into exercise and healthy eating. What is important to remember is that you have just had a baby, though. You may run the risk of doing more harm than good if you go from one extreme to the other, so taking it slow and easing your way in to gentle exercise is advisable. Another factor to consider if you are breastfeeding or if you had a caesarean – it is always a good idea to consult your GP before starting any strenuous activities. What you may find useful is going for short walks or light jogs in the first few weeks, then building up to a more intense workout. If you are looking for ways to get back your old body, but also to socialise with other mums, there are usually lots of keep fit groups within your local community, providing advice and instructions on workouts for new mums, and extending your support network through talking to other women going through the same experiences. You can even find swimming, aerobic and yoga classes, amongst others, that include your little one, so you can exercise with baby and you need not worry about who will look after them while you get fit after pregnancy. If you find yourself with some spare time, in amongst training for the Great North Run or taking pictures of your avocado on toast, you may wish to look into Cherubs Photography’s ‘Watch Me Grow’ feature. Enabling you to capture those oh so precious moments of your little one in their early stages, our professional, DBS-checked photographers will take beautiful shots of your baby, and it also includes a wonderful photo album for you place the pics in, available in a range of colours.
