6 top tips to keep your newborn comfortable in hot weather

Always position your baby out of direct sunlight – It is important to keep your newborn under a parasol or canapé if you are venturing outside.

Keep your curtains closed during the day – Keeping the curtains closed in your baby’s room during the daytime will ensure that the room stays cool ready for bedtime.

Cool bath before bedtimeAfter a long, hot summer’s day, your baby may feel agitated and uncomfortable. A cool bath before bedtime will help them to settle better and sleep through the night.

Keep nightwear and bedclothes to a minimum – Newborns can’t tell you when they are hot, nor can they regulate their own temperature, so it is important to keep their nightwear very lightweight during the summer.

Light blanket – Newborns can’t kick off blankets or re-position themselves if they are hot; a light blanket will allow them to have a ‘comforter’ without overheating.

Nursery thermometerThis one is obvious; make sure you have a thermometer in the nursery to keep an eye on the temperature. Some brands of baby monitor make them combined with thermometers so do your research and invest in a good one!
